About
Yummy Design serves women navigating life-altering transitions, whether entering motherhood, parenting with little to no support system, coping with homelessness, widowhood, divorce, poverty, or trauma. Defined less by demographics and more by circumstance and emotional state, our clients often move through moments marked by instability or significant change. Some have never experienced true safety or security within their environments, while others may struggle to reclaim that feeling.
We understand that home profoundly impacts the mind, heart, body, and soul.
We foster an intimate connection between women and their environments by transforming spaces through thoughtful organization and design. From creating small pleasures to re-establishing a sense of rhythm and flow in the home, these nurturing spaces meet women in vulnerable times, offering comfort, dignity, and a sense of belonging when it matters most. Home becomes more than shelter; it becomes a private retreat, a place to replenish and gather strength for life's challenges.
At Yummy Design, we believe being home should feel delicious.
Our Story
At the heart of Yummy Design is a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves to feel good in their space.
The idea started years ago when our founder, Karen Berggoetz, worked at a township trustee’s office in Fort Wayne, IN. She saw how many young mothers came in feeling overwhelmed, trying to find work, maintain transportation, and care for their children, all while managing their own needs. Many of them felt “stuck.” They weren’t just dealing with complicated systems—they were struggling to survive, with little time or space to breathe.
Karen wanted to offer something that could help these women see new possibilities. That desire to make a difference eventually led her to design.
Inspired by the HGTV show, While You Were Out, where loved ones surprised each other with room makeovers, Karen started doing the same for those close to her. She quickly saw how powerful it was to walk into a space that felt like relief—like love, care, and the simple message that “you matter.” Whether it was refreshing a bedroom for family or designing a shared space for friends, Karen found joy in creating spaces that made people feel good.
And that's what "yummy" became:
A feeling of delight
A sense of rest
A deep breath
A reminder that you’re safe here
While interning at a women’s shelter, Karen saw even more of the pain and challenges many women face, especially those with children. Between trauma, rebuilding their lives, and caring for their kids, these women had no time to rest, regroup, or pause. Yummy Design was created to provide spaces that nurture, heal, and hold.
This work is more than décor; it’s about dignity. We aim to give women a space where they feel seen, supported, and at peace.
Karen founded Yummy Design with the mission to help women who are in vulnerable situations. Through partnerships with local nonprofits, we transform spaces to feel safe, beautiful, and restorative.
Because when your space feels good, you start to feel good, too.
